As a result of the HTC Android operating system, phones such as the HTC Droid Incredible have been able to put pressure on the Apple iPhone. Since Verizon does not offer the iPhone to its customers, the Droid incredible offers them a smart-phone with nearly all the same gadgets (touch screen, email, 3G internet, “Apps.”, etc.). By tapping into the cell phone market, HTC stock has sky rocketed in the past year. Also, phones operating on the Android system have been cutting into profits of other cell phone companies such as Samsung and Nokia. It is unusual for a company to appear in a new market so quickly, but HTC has clearly done it. Before the switch to the Android operating system, HTC Corporation was nowhere near the top of the smart-phone sales. However, a complete change in production has enabled them to emerge to the top of the Consumer Electronics Industry.

This is a great example of an emerging company! I just recently heard about the company while shopping for a new smart-phone. Although the company currently does not have a reputation for being at the top of the market for a long time, it is definitely building a good reputation. It will be interesting to see where the company stands five years from now, and whether or not the emerging company will be able to remain a top player.
