Wireless Printing for iProducts

Apple announced today their plan for AirPrint, a program that will be used for wireless printing for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices. This new program will be able to “automatically find printers on local networks and can print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software”.

As if today, a beta version of the AirPrint program was released to members of Apple’s iOS developer program. Apple intends on having the AirPrint available for retail this upcoming fall and the holiday shopping season.

This product exemplifies Apple’s efforts to offer efficient and quality products to its customers. The company focuses on the ease of its products and values its customer’s time.

I believe AirPrint is another great Apple product! Having a wireless printer is a huge convenience and having the capability to print from devices such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod adds to the magnitude of this product. It is surprising that a printer of this kind has not been introduced to the market already. The fact that AirPrint is both Mac and PC compatible and “supports a wide range of printers from entry level inkjets to office laser printers” will make this product highly successful. The future of Apple looks even brighter with the addition of AirPrint.

  1. I saw Steve Jobs talk about this in the keynote at the beginning of the month. I thought it was a good way to add appeal to consumers who are constantly looking to cut down on wires and go wireless. Now Apple has simplified something even further that already seemed easy with wireless printers available.
However those require drivers and installation of software and the compatibility can sometimes be an issue. With AirPrint, all the users of Apple products will have access to a product in line with Apple's reputation of being extremely user-friendly, and I forsee it being very successful.
