What Does the Future Hold for GOME?

Founder of GOME, a very large electrical appliance company in Hong Kong and China, was put into jail on Monday. Huang Guangyu has found guilty of bribery and insider trading. He was caught trading inside information with shares of Shenzhen-listed Beijing Centergate Technologies Co. He also was caught buying 106 million dollars of Hong Kong money. Other people, including his wife and business partner, were also found guilty. This will largely affect the company itself.

Although the founder has caused harm to the company and society, the company itself has provided a lot of social services. In the year 2010, GOME donated 250 tons of rice to Yunnan Province and they also donated RMB 6 million to victims who suffered the YuShu earthquake. Other social services GOME provided include job training school for the disabled, fund raisers, providing travel expenses to underprivileged university students, and more.

Like many other consumer electronic companies, GOME is dedicated to providing the best service to their customers. Their mission statement begins with a mission to "best serve our [their] customers". They want their customers to be able to shop comfortably by providing them with competitive prices, convenient locations, good customer service, and more. A company in the United States similar to GOME, Best Buy, has a much shorter and simpler mission statement. They want to provide the unmet needs of the customers through their employees. Although slightly different on their approach, both companies ultimately put their customers needs first.
